A six-week clerkship in reproductive medicine. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the junior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 602. Chicago Psychiatry Clerkship. 6 hours.

A six-week in-depth experience in psychiatry and psychological medicine. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the junior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 603. Chicago Pediatrics Clerkship. 6 hours.

A six-week clerkship which provides pediatric instruction in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the junior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 604. Chicago Surgery Clerkship. 1-8 hours.

An eight-week clerkship in which students gain experience with the general surgical services of a hospital. Course Information: 1 to 8 hours. May be repeated to a maximum of 8 hours. Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the junior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 605. Chicago Medicine Clerkship. 1-12 hours.

A twelve-week clerkship designed to allow the student to apply the basic knowledge learned in the pre-clinical years. Course Information: 1 to 12 hours. May be repeated to a maximum of 12 hours.Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the junior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 606. Chicago Family Medicine Clerkship. 6 hours.

A six-week clerkship which emphasizes the outpatient care of children and adults in the office setting. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the junior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 608. Essentials of Clinical Practice and Professionalism - Chicago. 2 hours.

A two week course that prepares third year students for their clerkships by providing training and resources that will help them excel.

CLER 609. Clinical Student Portfolio - Chicago. 1 hour.

Designed for medical students starting from entry in medical school until graduation to promote self-reflection about their experiences, concerns, cases seen, procedures completed and other medical school activities. Course Information: May be repeated to a maximum of 4 hours. Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in the Chicago Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 610. Chicago Independent Study. 0-16 hours.

Participating students meet with faculty advisors to plan an individual curriculum. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Approval of the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs in the College of Medicine.

CLER 611. Chicago Fourth Year Elective Clerkships. 0-20 hours.

A variable hour course that covers the elective clerkship phase of the Doctor of Medicine program. No grade is issued. Detailed clerkship experiences are added to the students' academic records. Course Information: May be repeated to a maximum of 20 hours. Students may register in more than one section per term. Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the senior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 612. Medicine Sub-Internship - Chicago. 4 hours.

A four-week clerkship experience that represents, in part, a continuation of the third year Medicine core clerkship but offers graduated, supervised responsibility for patient care in the area of general internal medicine. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the senior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

CLER 613. Interdisciplinary Generalist Curriculum Clinical Elective-Chicago. 1 hour.

Third year medical students focus on continuity of patient care; problem solving; the patient care team; wellness; preventive medicine counseling and family development. Course Information: May be repeated to a maximum of 2 hours. Prerequisite(s): PRCL 645.

CLER 614. Medical Decision Analysis - Chicago. 1 hour.

Introduction to medical decision analysis, a method for assessing risks and benefits of diagnostic tests and therapies and combining these to compare alternative strategies. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Promotion to the junior year in the Doctor of Medicine program.

Students provide primary health care in an ambulatory care clinic setting under faculty supervision. Course Information: Enrollment in the Doctor of Medicine program at the Rockford site.

CLER 639. Rockford Independent Study. 0-16 hours.

CLER 641. Interface Between Family Medicine and the Community - Rockford. 1 hour.

Teaches skills for and design of a community-oriented primary care project, addressing health care needs of the local community in which the senior preceptorship occurs. Course Information: May be repeated to a maximum of 2 hours. Prerequisite(s): PRCL 665. Restricted to students admitted to the Rural Medical Education Program (RMED) at Rockford.

CLER 642. Rural Family Medicine Preceptorship - Rockford. 1-16 hours.

Clinical preceptorship in rural family practice. Community-oriented primary care project in a rural setting and assessment of health care resources in a rural community. Course Information: May be repeated to a maximum of 16 hours. Prerequisite(s): CLER 641. Restricted to students admitted to the Rural Medical Education Program (RMED) at Rockford.

CLER 643. Family Medicine Longitudinal Clerkship - Rockford. 4 hours.

Provides primary health care in an ambulatory care clinic setting under faculty supervision one day per week for 24 weeks. Course Information: 4 hours. May be repeated to a maximum of 4 hours. Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in the Rockford Doctor of Medicine Program, successful completion of M2 year requirements and has taken the USMLE Step 1 Examination.

Multidisciplinary approach to the social aspects of medicine and health care. The evolution of human disease, cultural and social aspects of illness, ethical issues in health care delivery, communication in medical settings, the history of medicine, medical economics and medicine as a profession. A longitudinal course from M1 to M4 years that will assist medical students in developing the knowledge and skills to make a thoughtful and successful specialty choice. Course Information: Extensive computer use required.

CLER 671. Essentials of Clinical Practice and Professionalism - 2. 1 hour.

This one week course is designed as a transition course for graduating medical students to prepare for their intern year of residency. Class Schedule Information: To be properly registered, students must enroll in one Lecture-Discussion and one Laboratory-Discussion.
