Joint Degrees

The joint degrees are designed for high-performing undergraduates who desire to pursue graduate studies to achieve a Master of Public Health (MPH). Students will earn the BA or BS when the student has completed at least 120 semester hours and fulfilled all baccalaureate degree requirements, and the MPH will be awarded upon completion of the master’s program requirements, with 8 or 9 hours of course work shared between the two degrees, depending on the concentration.

Students who plan to pursue the joint degree program must first be eligible for early admission to the bachelor's degree, which enables students to begin their public health major course work in the Fall semester of their sophomore year, rather than in the Fall semester of their junior year. Students who intend to pursue the joint degree program will indicate their intent during their first year at UIC and must meet with their SPH advisor to plan accordingly for early admission to the bachelor's degree. Students who enter the BA or BS programs in their sophomore year and desire to move forward with the joint degree will apply to the joint degree program by early in the Spring semester of their junior year.
