Joint MS in Health Information Management/MS in Health Informatics

Admission Requirements

During the application process for the two degree programs, students must complete the joint degree application to indicate their desire to apply to the joint degree program. Applicants must meet the admission criteria of both programs and be admitted to each through separate applications.

Degree Requirements

In addition to Graduate College minimum requirements, students must meet the program below. The Master of Science in Health Informatics degree and the Master of Science in Health Information Management degree will be awarded simultaneously when all requirements are satisfied.

  • Minimum Semester Hours Required: 58
  • Foundational Coursework: Depending on their background, students may be required to take additional courses as part of the degrees' requirements.a

Foundational prerequisites for the MS in Health Information Management are KN 230, KN 231, BHIS 405, and BHIS 406Foundational prerequisites for the MS in Health Informatics are BHIS 406 and HIM 486.

Note: International students should check with the UIC Office of International Services to verify their eligibility for this program prior to applying. The MSHIM/MSHI joint program is offered completely online. Applicants with tuition waivers should discuss their tuition options with their financial aid advisor prior to applying. As a full-cost recovery program, discretionary waivers are not allowed for the MSHIM/MSHI degree programs.
