Global Health Program

Note: The Global Health Program is being phased down. The concentration will be replaced by a campus certificate pending approval from the UIC Senate and Board of Trustees to comply with requirements from the Council on Educational For Public Health (CEPH). The last cohort of students admitted to the concentration in Fall 2023 will be transferred into the certificate program.

Students earning a Master of Public Health degree at UIC may complement their courses by completing the Global Health Program.

Admission Requirements

Upon admission to the SPH division of their choice (CHS, EPID, BSTT, EOHS or HPA), students apply to the Global Health Program through submission of a Global Health Concentration Application and current resume. With proper planning the concentration can be completed during the same time period required for the MPH.

Program Requirements

In addition to MPH program requirements, students pursuing the Global Health Prograrm must complete a minimum of 9 semester hours consisting of the following courses:

One 3-hour elective, selected with the help of an academic advisor and approved by the Global Health Program.

IPHS 409 is offered in the fall term and IPHS 410 is offered in the spring term. Courses need not be taken sequentially.

Other Requirements

  • For MPH students, both the Applied Practice Experience (IPHS 650) and Integrative Learning Experience (IPHS 698), that are completed as part of the MPH requirements, must have a global health focus.
