Joint Degrees

The joint degrees are designed for high-performing undergraduates who desire to pursue graduate studies to achieve a Master of Public Health (MPH). Students will earn the BA in Public Health Practice (BAPH) or BS in Public Health Sciences (BSPH)  when the student has completed at least 120 semester hours and fulfilled all baccalaureate degree requirements. The MPH will be awarded upon completion of the master’s program requirements, with 10 or 11 hours of coursework shared between the two degrees, depending on the concentration.

Students seeking admission into the joint degree program, who meet the eligibility criteria, must apply for admission to the MPH early in the spring semester of the junior year via an internal application process. In consultation with their advisor, students must be on track towards completing major coursework (BAPH or BSPH) that will allow them to complete concurrent MPH coursework in Year 4. Successful applicants typically have a cumulative GPA of 3.40/4.00 or higher.

Students complete a brief application form and submit a personal statement explaining their interest in the joint program and the specific academic division they hope to join for the MPH. Following submission of the application, the undergraduate program director will first approve the application to move on to the MPH program for review within ten business days. If admitted, the student will be informed of their admission by the academic division, and the MPH will be added to their academic record for the following fall term.
