Prior Degree  Bachelor's degree in any field. Grade Point Average   Admitted students typically have at least a combined undergraduate/graduate grade point average of 3.00/4.00. However, all applicants are given a holistic evaluation of their application. Applicants with less than a 3.00 are encouraged to apply if they believe that their application is strong in other areas. Tests  GRE not required. Letters of Recommendation  Three required, uploaded via the SOPHAS application. Resume or CV  Required, uploaded via the SOPHAS application. Personal Statement  Applicants will upload a 500-800 word statement focused on their interests/experiences in public health and the program they are applying to specifically, goals with the degree, and why they would be successful in the program. For students applying to research focused programs, the personal statement should also address potential research interests. Minimum English Competency Test Score for International Applicants TOEFL iBT  80, with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21,  OR , IELTS Academic  6.5, with 6.0 in each of the four subscores,  OR , PTE-Academic  54, with subscores of Reading 51, Listening 47, Speaking 53, and Writing 56.

Prerequisite Courses  Two  semesters of college math, one course in college chemistry and one course in either biology OR physics prior to  enrollment.  In addition, applicants should have completed coursework in college-level mathematics, biology, general and organic chemistry, and physics. Exceptions may be granted for applicants with relevant work experience or high-level academic achievements. Exceptions may be admitted with an individually documented plan of study to compensate for deficiencies, although applicants are strongly encouraged to satisfy all deficiencies prior to matriculation. Applicants are invited to consult with the Industrial Hygiene Program Director about  possible deficiencies .   Tests  GRE not required. The School of Public Health offers two baccalaureate degree programs: the Bachelor of Arts in Public Health and the Bachelor of Science in Public Health. The Bachelor of Arts in Public Health is geared toward students with an interest in the socio-cultural determinants of health and aims to prepare students for public health practice, community engaged work, and careers and graduate education focused on social justice in health and well-being. The associated selective course options for the Bachelor of Arts largely align with social sciences and humanities. The Bachelor of Science in Public Health is geared toward students seeking a deeper understanding of basic and applied sciences and aims to prepare students for graduate and professional degrees and career trajectories in fields such as epidemiology and biostatistics, dentistry, environmental and occupational health sciences, medicine, and pharmacy. AHS 100. Applied Health Sciences Seminar I. 1 hour.

Introduces students to resources at UIC. Emphasizes academic skill building, professional development, major/career exploration, health and wellness, social justice, diversity and inclusion and community engagement. Course Information: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. Course meets for full 16 weeks of the semester.

AHS 396. Independent Study in Applied Health Sciences. 1-4 hours.

Selected topics in applied health sciences for individual student study, with faculty approval and supervision. Course Information: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. May be repeated to a maximum of 8 hours. Prerequisite(s): Junior standing or above.

BHIS 575. Applied Statistics for Health Data Science. 3 hours.

Presents statistical foundations for health data science using statistical software like R and Minitab. The course also provides exposure to common statistical techniques, and interpretation, focusing on health care data. Course Information: Credit is not given for BHIS 575 if the student has credit in IDS 570 or IDS 575. Extensive computer use required. Meets eight weeks of the semester. This course is taught online.
