Surgical principles, technique, patient evaluations, medical-dental management, surgical complications, symptomology, medical emergencies, dentoaveolar infections, medicolegal considerations of oral and maxillofacial surgery. OSUR 332. Basic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. 1 hour.

Evaluational, diagnostic and procedural aspects of practice: surgical extractions, impacted teeth, preprosthetic surgery, space infections, pathology and biopsy, radiation, neuropathology and trauma. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): OSUR 323.

Techniques of sedation and management of complications under anesthesia. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): OSUR 320.

OSUR 334. Internal Medicine for Dental Students. 1 hour.

Covers theories and basic principles of internal medicine as applied to the organ systems and approaches to management of patients with common system diseases. Course Information: Previously listed as OMDS 333.

OSUR 337. Oral and Maxillofacial Clinic I. 1 hour.

Clinical practice of exodontia, dentoalveolar surgery and minor oral surgical procedure as encountered in general practice of dentistry. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): OSUR 323.

OSUR 342. Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. 1 hour.

Advanced level discussion of medical-dental management, surgical and medical emergencies, surgical complications, diagnostic procedures, dentofacial deformities, clefts, reconstructive surgery, surgery and managed care, criteria for referral. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): OSUR 332.

OSUR 343. Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office. 1 hour.

Recognition and management of the medical emergency in the dental office will be taught with major emphasis on problem solving. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Completion of the third year in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program.

OSUR 344. Implant Dentistry. 1 hour.

History of implantology, prosthetic and surgical aspects to implant reconstruction are described. Laboratory sessions allow students to have hands-on experience. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): Completion of the third year clinical requirements in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program or consent of the course director.

Continues OMFS 337. Clinical practice of exodontia, dentalaveolar surgery and minor oral surgical procedures as encountered in general practice of dentistry. Course Information: Prerequisite(s): OSUR 337.

OSUR 610. Conscious Sedation and General Anesthesia. 1 hour.

Lectures on pharmacology, pharmakodynamics, medical emergencies, drug interaction, and pain and anxiety control supplemented with clinical experience in administration of general anesthetic and inhalation and intravenous sedatives. Course Information: Previously listed as OSUR 510. Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in the OMFS Certificate Program or approval of the department. OSUR 611. Oral Surgery Seminar. 2 hours.

Lectures, seminars, conferences, grand rounds, and journal club dealing with current topics of clinical and research interest. Course Information: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. OSUR 613. Craniofacial Deformity Seminar. 1 hour.

Discusses the investigation, evaluation, treatment planning and follow-up monitoring of patients with dentofacial deformities. Course Information: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. Discussion and presentation of clinical and histological variations of a wide spectrum of diseases and conditions seen within the scope of oral and maxillofacial surgeons. OSUR 620. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. 2-20 hours.

OSUR 623. Applied Surgical Anatomy. 1 hour.

Advanced head and neck anatomy and surgical approaches to common problems and extensive review of anatomical relationships. Presentations of various surgical techniques and instrumentation. OSUR 624. Morbidity and Mortality Conference. 1 hour.

Case presentation and discussion of current and past surgical complications and adverse outcomes focusing on preventive and management aspects. OSUR 633. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Literature Review. 1 hour.

Methodology for critical review of medical literature and discuss key articles appearing in appropriate medical and dental journals. Course Information: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only. OSUR 661. Physical Diagnosis. 4 hours.

In-depth methods of obtaining a history and performing physical diagnosis of the entire body through theoretical and practical lesions. Course Information: Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading only.
