PMDN 601. M3 Cardiovascular Diseases. 2 hours.
This subspecialty elective is inpatient based. The students will assist the preceptors in the evaluation of the cardiology consults in the hospital and participate on the cardiology teaching service. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 602. M3 Gastroenterology. 2 hours.
This dermatology elective is designed to provide a basic knowledge of the common skin lesions seen in practice Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 603. M3 Geriatrics. 2 hours.
The student will spend two weeks with Dr Lindahl. The student will make inpatient rounds with the geriatrics team Monday
through Friday and attend team based learning sessions with the house staff and other learners (e.g. – APN students) Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 2nd Year.
PMDN 604. M3 Hematology and Oncology. 2 hours.
The student will evaluate and assist in the management and treatment of patients with hematologic or oncologic diseases. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 2nd Year.
PMDN 605. Hematology and Oncology. 4 hours.
The student will evaluate and assist in the management and treatment of patients admitted with hematologic or oncologic
diseases. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 606. M3 Infectious Diseases. 2 hours.
The student will spend two weeks with an assigned preceptor. Dr. Lin is the director of this course. This subspecialty elective
is largely inpatient based but will also have an outpatient component. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 2nd Year.
PMDN 607. M3 Nephrology. 2 hours.
The student will spend two weeks with an assigned preceptor. Dr. Horinek is the director of this course. The student will
round with the nephrologist on the consult service at SFMC. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 2nd Year.
PMDN 608. Cardiovascular Diseases. 4 hours.
Students will have the opportunity of participating in the evaluation of select adult patients with cardiovascular disease in
the hospital setting. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 609. M3 Pulmonary Consult Service. 2 hours.
The student will work closely with the pulmonary medicine attending and, when available, the resident on the pulmonary
service. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 2nd Year.
PMDN 610. Gastroenterology. 4 hours.
This is an inpatient with elective outpatient experience in clinical gastroenterology in a single specialty OSF practice with specialty interests in interventional endoscopy, hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease,
and general gastroenterology. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 611. Geriatrics. 2-4 hours.
Students work one-to-one with the individual assigned geriatric attending and will participate in the evaluation and care of
elderly patients in the hospital and ambulatory care setting. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 613. Infectious Diseases. 2-4 hours.
Students will work on a one-to-one basis with the infectious disease specialist assigned to teaching infectious disease
consult service. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 614. Nephrology. 4-8 hours.
Students will evaluate and assist with the management of all patients admitted to or seen in consultation by the Nephrology
service. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 615. Pulmonary Medicine. 4 hours.
The student will work closely with the pulmonary medicine internist and, when available, the resident on the pulmonary

PMDN 616. Palliative Medicine. 2 hours.
Students have a brief encounter with hospice during their Internal Medicine Core Clerkship in the 3rd year but receive no
structured exposure or experience to palliative medicine during their medical school career. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 617. UICOMP Internal Medicine Consult Service (UCAPS). 2 hours.
This is a two-week rotation aimed for medical students interested in consultative medicine, bedside procedures, and point-
of- care ultrasound used diagnostically and procedurally. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 618. Community Based Medicine-Pediatrics. 4 hours.
The student will work with Med-Peds physicians in Central Illinois. The student will participate in the practice of general
Internal Medicine and Pediatrics outpatient. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 619. Summer Camp for Kids with Diabetes. 2 hours.
Camp Granada is a week-long summer camp for kids ages 8 - 16 who have diabetes. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 620. Rehabilitation Medicine. 2 hours.
Designed to provide the student with the necessary clinical facilities, patient exposure and professional supervision, to learn the basic principles of evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of physical disabilities and pain management. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PMDN 621. Cardiovascular Diseases. 4 hours.
Endocrinology elective is an in-person elective. The purpose of this elective is to teach basic endocrinology conditions. The elective will include seeing patients with pituitary, adrenal, pancreas and reproductive issues. Students will learn what questions should be asked and how the visit should be tailored depending on the conditions. They will also have training about CGM and insulin pumps. PMDN 660. Survey of Medical Informatics. 2 hours.
This elective is designed to provide an overview of informatics using online lectures, readings, hands-on exercises, and threaded discussions. The goal is to build a foundation of information skills for information management, clinical decision-making, research, patient education, and lifelong learning. PMDN 661. Clinical Microbiology. 4 hours.
This elective is designed to introduce the student(s) to the various sections of the clinical laboratory and its role in patient care. The goal of this one-month educational experience is to gain basic knowledge of laboratory organization, workflow, specimen adequacy, testing metholodology and test interpretation. This elective focuses on the application of creative arts and humanities disciplines to discourse about human health and

PMDN 680. Medicine Sub-Internship. 4 hours.
The goal is to provide an educational experience where medical students will have direct
responsibility for patient care (evaluation/assessment/notes/orders/presentation/consults/hand-off) including patient
