Child Abuse Pediatricians are specialists trained in the evaluation of cases of suspected child abuse and neglect, as well

PPED 602. Newborn Nursery. 2 hours.
Welcome to Well Baby. This is your opportunity to become proficient in the examination of the newborn and management
of the common questions and problems that come up in clinical practice. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 603. HKU Pediatric Weight Management. 2 hours.
The purpose of this individualized elective is to expose students who are considering careers in primary care to a
multidisciplinary pediatric weight management program. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 606. Pediatric Hematology. 2-4 hours.
During this rotation, the student will have the opportunity to follow patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, while under the supervision of a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 610. Pediatric Cardiology. 4 hours.
The student will have the opportunity to examine pediatric outpatients with a variety of congenital and acquired heart
conditions. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 612. Pediatric Endocrinology. 4 hours.
The purpose of this elective is to develop and enhance the student’s understanding and skills in pathophysiology, physical diagnosis, and management of pediatric endocrinologic disease. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 640. Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). 2-4 hours.
This elective provides the M4 with the opportunity to learn to manage critically ill pediatric patients in a supervised environment. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 641. Neonatology (NICU). 2-4 hours.
The student will be assigned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit under the supervision of a neonatologist, neonatal nurse
practitioners and a resident. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 680. Pediatric Sub-Internship. 4 hours.
This elective provides a continuation of the required M3 clerkship with increased patient load and clinical responsibility
approaching that of an intern. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
PPED 690. Away Rotation in Pediatrics. 1-15 hours.
