CFAM 601. Reproductive Health in Family Medicine. 4 hours.

The Family Planning and Women’s Health Elective at UIC is for UIC M4s with an interest in furthering their training in reproductive health conditions, common gynecological procedures, contraception, and basic OB/Gyn ultrasound.  Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 602. Better Health Through Advocacy. 2-4 hours.

The purpose of this experience is to expose medical student learners to the intersection of family medicine and community advocacy. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 603. Spirituality and Health. 2-4 hours.

Medical students will gain experience collecting spiritual histories, having discussions on patients’ spiritualities, how it pertains to their healthcare, and familiarizing themselves with resources that can be used to meet patients’ spiritual needs. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 604. Occupational & Environmental Medicine. 2 hours.

This elective is intended to familiarize the medical student with the specialty of occupational and environmental medicine.  Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 605. Primary Care Sports Medicine. 4 hours.

Students will be exposed to a wide range of sports medicine problems in the sports medicine clinic at Advocate Christ Family Practice Center and Advance Ortho and Spine. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 680. Family Medicine Sub-Internship. 4 hours.

The four-week senior experience in Family Medicine will provide an educational experience for M4 clinical clerks that offers graduates supervised responsibility for inpatient care in the area of Family Medicine. This sub internship will allow students to synthesize knowledge and skills learned in the M3 clerkship, and gain an awareness of the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that doctors that practice Family Medicine strive to acquire and maintain throughout their professional lives. You will not have the time to acquire all of these attributes yourself during the rotation, but you will understand the professional responsibilities and student-centered learning process that permits the gradual acquisition of these attributes over longer periods of time. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the care of newborns, children, prenatal / laboring patients, and adults. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 4th Year.

CFAM 690. Away Rotation in Family Medicine. 1-15 hours.

An elective in Family Medicine taken outside the University of Illinois College of Medicine with prior approval. Course Information: May be repeated. Students may enroll in more than one section per term. Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 694. Special Topics in Family Medicine. 1-15 hours.

Special or new topics in Family Medicine. Course Information: May be repeated. Students may enroll in more than one section per term. Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 696. Individualized Elective in Family Medicine. 1-15 hours.

Individualized elective in Family Medicine under the supervision of a faculty member or physician to fit students' interests or customized experiences with prior approval. Course Information: May be repeated. Students may enroll in more than one section per term. Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

CFAM 697. Research Elective in Family Medicine. 1-15 hours.
