RPED 601. Ambulatory Pediatrics. 2 hours.
This is a two-week clinical elective. The student will be exposed to a variety of healthy and ill patients, in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 602. Career Exploration - Community-Based Pediatrics. 2 hours.
A 2-week rotation to allow a student to have an extended experience providing ambulatory and hospital care in a more rural setting with somewhat fewer resources than the medical center where their prerequisite clerkship was completed. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 603. Pediatric Forensics (Medical Evaluation Response Initiative Team or MERIT). 2 hours.
Review male and female genital anatomy, including normal variants and positive findings in a child who is suspected of being sexually abused. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 604. Pediatric Gastroenterology. 2 hours.
The pediatric gastroenterology clerkship is a 2-4 week exposure to the various clinical problems encountered in pediatric gastroenterology. Students will spend approximately 40 hours per week in inpatient and outpatient settings. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 605. Pediatric Pulmonology. 2 hours.
This is a 2-week clinical elective. The student will be exposed to the most common aspects of Pediatric Pulmonology, including critical care, ventilator management and care of the chronically ill. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 610. Pediatric Cardiology. 2 hours.
The course will attempt to provide basic and for the proper student (with interest in a career in Pediatrics or Family Medicine especially) more advanced understanding of congenital heart disease and acquired heart disease. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 611. Pediatric Endocrinology. 4 hours.
The purpose of this elective is to develop and enhance the student’s understanding and skills in pathophysiology, physical diagnosis, and management of pediatric endocrinologic disease. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 641. Neonatology - NICU. 2 hours.
Follow 3‑5 patients in NICU. Attend high‑risk deliveries or C‑sections, go on transport. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPED 690. Away Rotation in Pediatrics. 1-15 hours.
An elective in Pediatrics taken outside the University of Illinois College of Medicine with prior approval. Course Information: May be repeated. Students may enroll in more than one section per term. Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
