RPSY 601. Adolescent Substance Abuse/Mental Health and Dual Diagnosis. 2 hours.
The student will work with the medical director at Rosecrance Griffin-Williamson campus to learn about substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 602. Forensic Psychiatry Inpatient. 2-4 hours.
Students will rotate on a 25-bed adult inpatient Unfit to Stand Trial unit and will be supervised by an attending psychiatrist during their rotation. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 603. Inpatient Psychiatry. 2 hours.
Students will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Safdar as he provides diagnosis, management, and treatment to patients. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 604. Outpatient Mental Health. 2 hours.
This course is designed to provide the student with experience in community psychiatry. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 605. Outpatient Mental Health. 4 hours.
This four week advanced patient facing elective will require fourth year medical students to work with a wide variety of types of patients in the field including children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients admitted to inpatient psychiatry units with diagnoses including but not limited to major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, ADHD, ODD, reactive attachment disorder, dementia with behavioral disturbances, conduct disorder, and borderline personality disorder. Students will work directly with the chief resident or attending. Students will be required to attend didactic sessions hosted for the residents while on this advanced clinical care elective. These didactic cover topics such as psychopharmacology, inpatient psychiatry, and substance abuse. Medical students will be required to participate in morning report throughout the week. Medical students will be supervised and assessed by physicians reporting directly to the attending or chief resident during this experience. Students will be expected to have primary responsibility for a roster of patients during their time on this elective. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 606. Community Psychiatry Advanced Clinical Care Elective. 4 hours.
This course is designed to provide the student with advanced experience in community psychiatry. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 680. Forensic and Inpatient Psychiatry Sub-Internship. 4 hours.
Students will be assigned to an adult inpatient unit at Elgin Mental Health Center, treating either UST (Unfit to Stand Trial) patients, NGRI (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity) patients, or a mix of both. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 690. Away Rotation in Psychiatry. 1-15 hours.
An elective in Psychiatry taken outside the University of Illinois College of Medicine with prior approval. Course Information: May be repeated. Students may enroll in more than one section per term. Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.
RPSY 694. Special Topics in Psychiatry. 1-15 hours.

RPSY 696. Individualized Elective in Psychiatry. 1-15 hours.
Individualized elective in Psychiatry under the supervision of a faculty member or physician to fit students' interests or customized experiences with prior approval.
