RSRG 601. Ophthalmology. 2 hours.

A basic experience in clinical ophthalmology in the office setting. Primary goal is to familiarize students with basic diagnostic techniques and instruments. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 602. Orthopedic Surgery. 2-4 hours.

This elective is offered to students who wish to learn more about basic orthopedic examinations and the management of ambulatory orthopedic problems. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 603. Surgical Sports Medicine. 2-4 hours.

Sports Medicine crosses the barriers of specific disciplines as athletes may suffer problems associated with the musculoskeletal system, nutrition, mental health and motivation, dental problems, or primary care issues. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 604. Anesthesiology. 2-4 hours.

This elective is designed to provide a concentrated 2- or 4-week experience in the selection and conduct of anesthesia by assigning the student to one or more anesthesiology preceptors. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 605. Career Exploration - Community-Based Surgery. 2-4 hours.

A 2- or 4-week rotation to allow a student to have an extended experience providing ambulatory and hospital care in a rural setting with fewer resources than the typical tertiary medical center where their prerequisite clerkship was completed. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 606. Otolaryngology. 2-4 hours.

The student is encouraged to review the basic anatomy and physiology of the head and neck prior to starting the elective. The objectives will be accomplished primarily in the private office setting and in the surgical procedures operating room. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 607. Neurosurgery. 2 hours.

The Neurosurgery elective will provide the student with an outstanding clinical experience in a wide spectrum of disease. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 608. Cardiothoracic Surgery. 2-4 hours.

Students will round on the service in a "sub-intern capacity". They will be involved in preoperative and postoperative care. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 609. Advanced Surgery. 4 hours.

This will be a four-week advanced level surgery clerkship. The student will be assigned to specific faculty for a specific period of time during the rotation. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 611. Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery. 2-4 hours.

Principles of wound care and wound healing in general skin grafting and burn treatment, basic suturing techniques and materials, management of lacerations and facial fractures, office surgery, dermatologic surgery, etc., hand surgery. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 614. Urology. 2 hours.

The objectives of this elective will be to familiarize the M4 student with diagnosis and management of urological problems in the ambulatory setting. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 615. Vascular Surgery. 2 hours.

This elective is offered to students interested in learning more about management of peripheral vascular diseases. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 640. Career Exploration - Community-Based Emergency Medicine. 2-4 hours.

A 2-week rotation to allow a student to have an extended experience providing emergency room care in a more rural setting with somewhat fewer resources than the medical center where their prerequisite clerkship was completed. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 641. Emergency Medicine. 2-4 hours.

This 2- or 4-week elective will involve M3 and M4 students in the practice of emergency medicine in a busy Emergency Department. Students will function as primary emergency physicians under the supervision of attending physicians. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 680. Community Acute Care Surgery Sub-Internship. 4 hours.

Intended for 4th year students applying for residency in general surgery, allowing them to develop more in-depth procedural experience and a more intensive focus on during the surgical intern year. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 681. Surgery/Orthopaedic Surgery Sub-Internship. 4 hours.

This is a four-week clerkship in advanced orthopaedic surgery with the goal of preparing the medical student to become a surgical resident. The student will be assigned to different orthopaedic teams during their 4 weeks. Course Information: Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 690. Away Rotation in Surgery and Surgical Specialties. 1-15 hours.

An elective in Surgery or Surgical Specialties taken outside the University of Illinois College of Medicine with prior approval. Course Information: May be repeated. Students may enroll in more than one section per term. Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 694. Special Topics in Surgery and Surgical Specialties. 1-15 hours.

Special or new topics in Surgery or Surgical Specialties. Course Information: May be repeated. Students may enroll in more than one section per term. Field work required. Prerequisite(s): Completion of 3rd Year.

RSRG 696. Individualized Elective in Surgery and Surgical Specialties. 1-15 hours.

Individualized elective in Surgery or Surgical Specialties under the supervision of a faculty member or physician to fit students' interests or customized experiences with prior approval.
